Fluxys Brasil highlights methane reduction and green hydrogen strategies at COP30

17 November 2025  At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Fluxys reaffirmed its global commitment to decarbonisation and the energy transition. Our CEO Brazil, Sébastien Lahouste, joined the high-level panel “Brazilian O&G Industry Achieves Standards of Excellence in Reducing Methane Emissions”, organized by IBP at the Brazil Pavilion. The discussion highlighted how the oil and gas sector can lead in cutting methane emissions, one of the most impactful short-term climate actions.

Key messages from Fluxys:

  • Net-zero by 2050, backed by a detailed roadmap.
  • In Brazil, our partnership with TBG (Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil S.A.) is turning commitment into action, with the first methane reduction plan approved in 2024.

Sébastien emphasized that accurate measurement, best-practice sharing, and international cooperation are essential to accelerate progress. Methane, with its climate impact 86 times greater than CO₂ in the short term, represents one of the fastest and most cost-effective mitigation opportunities.

Pre-COP30: Green Hydrogen in Focus

Ahead of COP30, Fluxys participated in the Pre-COP event in São Paulo, joining the panel “How to Decarbonise Industry: Possibilities and Challenges of Green Hydrogen”. Organized by the Belgian and Dutch consulates, hub.brussels, and FIT, the debate explored practical pathways for green hydrogen adoption.

Sébastien outlined three pillars for success:

  1. Robust public-private collaboration under clear regulatory frameworks.
  2. Phased investments aligned with market maturity.
  3. Leveraging existing demand hubs to build efficient, secure networks.

Why It Matters

Fluxys’ presence at COP30 and Pre-COP reinforces our role as a bridge to a low-carbon future, from Belgium to Brazil. Through initiatives on methane reduction and hydrogen infrastructure, we are working with partners to deliver resilient, sustainable energy systems.
